Employment Specialist
Job Overview
Joint Technology Solution, Inc. (JTS) is looking for someone who can independently assist military personnel and their families in finding employment and/or the education needed to obtain employment. This includes any National Guard Soldier/Airman, Reservist of any branch, transitioning active duty personnel, retiree or veteran of any branch, as well as their spouses. Helps clients find work, takes information for employers' job openings, matches job seekers to openings and refers job seekers to employers, workshops and training. Gives presentations to job seekers, markets services to employers, provides educational assistance, and assists in writing resumes and job applications as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Interviews employers to obtain detailed information about the employer's recruitment needs.
- Explains criteria, requirements, and philosophy of various programs to individuals or groups of business owners, job seekers, or clients.
- Identifies barriers to successful job search and possible solutions to remove the barriers.
- Determines transferable skills, interests, and employment goals.
- Orients, coaches, or trains job seekers in job search activities and processes. Inputs, retrieves, and analyzes information from various online databases.
- Contacts and interviews clients for clarifying or missing information.
- Contacts employers to develop job opportunities for clients.
- Reviews applications for occupational information and accuracy. Interviews and collects detailed information from job seeker about previous jobs.
- Refers clients to job finding workshops, special services, or resources within the state or community.
Program
- Explains eligibility and assists clients with obtaining a quality job within their qualifications.
- Explains general eligibility requirements for other workforce programs and educational avenues and benefits.
- Identifies potential educational or training problems or issues and assists with a detailed training and educational plan.
- Evaluates applicant's qualifications for special job programs.
- Provides guidance and assistance with a quality resume related to client’s job skills.
- Educate clients on the opportunities for on-the-job or apprenticeship training.
Marketing and Customer Activities
- Markets to and educates the business community about the program's services.
- Attends and represents the agency at various planning, military and veteran related functions or employer meetings.
- Makes presentations to job seekers, clients, community and business groups, and partner agencies.
- Recruits, refers, and matches specific clients to jobs or community-supportive service providers for which they qualify.
- Develops a strategy and visits veteran related organizations, State, County, and City agency locations to exchange information and perform outreach activities.
- Coordinates outreach activities and service deliveries with other community partners or service organizations.
- Contacts employers to develop jobs for service member groups.
- Develops database of Veteran-friendly employers and educates them on the benefits of hiring a veteran.
- Facilitates or directly provides vocational guidance. Participates in and provides information at Military Yellow Ribbon Programs.
- Locates and provides a presence at local and regional Job Fairs.
- Networks with local community Centers of Influence.
Qualifications:
- Heavy public-contact experience gathering personal information, making notes, and deciding an action based on the information.
- This must include one year of experience in job placement, employment services, vocational guidance, unemployment insurance, or related field.
- Three years’ experience leading, training, guiding and mentoring service members in their career, education, family and future goals or two years must have been in job placement, employment services, vocational guidance, or related experience.
- Must have a four-year college or university in Human Resources, Vocational or Career Counseling, Social Services, Psychology, Education, Business or Public Administration or Communication or related degree; OR Three years of education or experience.
